Why Agriculture?

Employment & Salary Opportunities

A recent USDA national survey indicates that there will continue to be a shortage of qualified ag graduates in the new millennium. Approximately 2,000 jobs each year go unfilled because of a lack of students trained in the agriculture field. These opportunities are in a wide variety of areas including food products and processing, agribusiness, education, communications, marketing, and natural resources.

In addition, the salary potential in these fields is very competitive with other four-year degrees. As an example, the average starting salary for Kansas State University Ag graduates in 2001 was approximately $30,000.
