Director of Vocal and Instrumental Music

Ted Clous, director of vocal and instrumental music classes at Allen Community College, graduated with his Ted-Clousbachelor's of music education from Central Michigan University in December, 2004. He went on to earn his master's of music education from CMU (2011), where he focused on music education and jazz performance. Ted played piano for the CMU Jazz Lab 1 Ensemble as well as the CMU Vocal Jazz group. He also played trombone for the CMU trombone choir as well as teach private lessons on the side. Most recently Ted held a teaching position as music director at the Traverse City Children's Theater, Michigan (2005-2010). During his time there, Ted instructed kids ages 9-17 in musical theater as well as being the piano accompanist for performances. He also taught at Arenac Eastern Community Schools, Michigan (2006-2009) teaching K-12 general music classes, beginning band, as well as middle school and high school concert band. Ted has also taught at Hillman Schools, Michigan (2005-2006) teaching choir and band and Buckley Community Schools, Michigan (2005) where he was the K-6 general music teacher.

Ted performs regularly on piano and trombone for various bands and ensembles. Ted also loves recording, writing and transcribing music for various performing ensembles. Ted received the "Outstanding Jazz Band Arrangement" award for his rendition of the Raven Speaks (Jarrett) and Bud Powell (Corea) at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival in 2010 and 2011. Ted has also transcribed Alice in Wonderland (Fain) for the CMU Vocal Jazz Ensemble and received rave reviews from their spring concert (2011).
