Phillip Dale wins Long Jump by 3 feet
| On a cool Saturday morning, Phillip Dale jumped a 13 inch personal best winning the Long Jump with ease. "I'm not surprised that he jumped that, I'm amazed that he jumped that in that atmosphere." DeGrado said. "There was only 9 jumpers entered and Phillip hadn't lost to any of them all year, so I wondered if he could get up for this one." And get up he did, jumping 4 all time personal best jumps in one meet. His first jump was by far the furthest, however he scratch barely. His next jump was 23'2", and then 22'11", followed by 22'10", and Phillip ended his day with a jump of 23'4.5" which has him ranked 2nd in the conference for outdoors and 12th in the Nation. "Phillip is 4 inches away from qualifying, and with Wichita State up next week, I know Phillip will have that big meet atmosphere there." I know Phillip is the one jumping, but I have to give full credit to Coach Brant Littrell who is his coach. Coach Littrell and Phillip have been working hard to correct his errors and fine tune them for each meet. What is more remarkable is Phillip's personal best in high school was 22' even. "That says a lot about what kind of jumps coach, Brant Littrell has become." DeGrado said. In other performances, Nik Stranghoner won the 800m, the 4x400m relay won without three of their main legs. Ryan Rhodes won the Discus with a throw of 127'. Andrew Schroter dropped more time off of his 400m hurdle time with a run of 58.81. Andrew is about 2 weeks away from being in racing shape. Due to basketball Andrew didn't have a fall track to prepare him for the whole year, and he didn't race much indoors either. |
