Highland Last Chance Meet--2/23/06
Highland, KS
The Allen County Track and Field team took a few
athletes up to Highland, KS to participate in the Highland Last
Chance Invite in hoping to get a few athletes qualified. I would have to say, as a whole, we had the
best all around meet as a team. Colby
Segraves, a Javelin thrower who wanted to try the pentathlon in order to stay
active over the winter months. Broke a school record that was set back in 1996. Colby attempted each event while he was
there. He compiled a score of 2493 which
broke previous mark by 50 points. “I
wish we would have spent more time on the events, because Colby could have been
in the high two-thousands, possibly low three’s.” DeGrado said.
“I’m really glad to see Colby get the record, he is a hard worker and
I’m looking forward to him competing outdoors and I know whatever four-year
school he attends next year will be getting a solid athlete.” DeGrado said.
Other athletes that competed at the meet were freshman, Phillip Dale who
jumped an all-time personal best at 22’3” which placed him 1st. Phillip is going to make an impact for us
come outdoors. He is hitting the board
constantly and now its just about putting some jumps together. Lee Johnson is back from injury and I know he’s
ready to get back out there. We’ll be
adding Elias Yeadon who will only add to the already
deep jumping core. Chase Bradley ran
well for his final tune up meet before Nationals. Chase really got out of the blocks well
today. Both prelims and finals, Chase
was the first out of the blocks each time.
Harry ran the 400m and 60m which were back to back with a little bit of
rest. Nate finished his indoor campaign
on an average note. Nate jumped 6feet
and a three-quarters. Andrew ran the
600m which he took 1st place however, nobody was around to push
him. The track at Highland was only a 160m track which poses
problems for running events. Allen County
will conclude its Indoor season next weekend in Manhattan, KS
at the National Junior College Championships, March 3, 4.
