Brandon Agee Breaks School Record

Like the saying goes records are meant to be broken, well the 600 yard was broken by Andrew Schroter at 1:16.4, and then the very next heat, it was lowered by Brandon Agee at 1:16.09, barely missing the qualifying mark of 1:15.98.  The old mark was 1:16.77.  Later I found out Andrew was DQ’d, which neither he nor I was ever told why.  Brandon’s entry was messed up by the staff up at Iowa State, and he was then entered in the slowest section where he won his heat by 30 meters.  Given the correct heat assignment, he would have qualified easily.  Brandon later triple jumped, 42’11”, however he injured his back on that jump.  I expect Brandon to be back this weekend at Central Missouri.  “Brandon has really stepped up for us, he came to us as a triple jumper, however I believe he is gifted enough to run with the top runners in the 600yard and run in the mid 1:50’s for an 800.”  DeGrado said.

Chase Bradley, had a nice meet, running the 60m 7.21, 200m in 23.03, and running the fastest leg on the 4x400m at 50.58.  Chase is ready to qualify in the 400.  Lee Johnson jumped 21’8”, however he was behind the board on all of his jumps, and his steps were a little off.  I feel Lee is ready to explode with a 23 plus jump any meet now.  I believe he knows what he has to do, and now it’s just working on those things, and putting them together in a meet.

Michael Valenti ran a PR in the 5000m at 16:29.88.  He had a lot more left then what he thought.  Michael just needs to get comfortable with racing in College, and then I believe he’ll run in the mid 15’s.  “I just keep telling him stay after it, you are just as good as the people you’re running against.”  “He looked very strong, he just wasn’t used to the college atmosphere which isn’t any different than high school meets.”  Degrado said.

In other races, Tim Snyder ran a personal best of 17:59.08 in the 5000m.  “Tim is getting there, in HS he always ran in the mid-18’s, now he’s starting to mature and adapt to the training.”  Coach DeGrado stepped out on the track and ran a leg of an Unattached Distance Medley Relay.  He ran a respectable 1:57.88 helping his team finish 9th with a time of 10:22.95.
