The Allen County Track Team competed in its 3rd indoor meet of the season this past weekend at Missouri Southern University in Joplin.  This was another big meet with over 30 teams from 5 different states.  “Indoor meets are always very competitive because of the limited number of indoor facilities in our area.  It’s a great opportunity for our teams to compete against top tier athletes.” said Vince Degrado the Head Track Coach of Allen County.  “Due to the size of the meet we were only able to take a limited

number of athletes.” said Degrado.  Despite the limited number of athletes the Red Devils still had some outstanding performances highlighted by freshman Chase Bradley’s 13th place finish in the 400 with a time of 51.77.  “That was Chase’s first time to run the open 400 and we were very pleased with his performance.  We ask Chase to do a lot and we’ll lean on him heavily come conference time.” Degrado stated.  Freshman Andrew Schroter, who splits time between basketball and track also ran well running a 1:17.17 in the 600yd race.  “Andrew is still trying to get his legs underneath him.  He’s been training less than two weeks and once he’s in race shape he’ll be able to compete with the best of them.” said Degrado.

Others competing in the meet were Michael Valenti (9:30.23 in the 3000m), Tim Snyder (10:09.99 in the 3000m), Jermaine Harris (40-04.25ft in the shot put), Phillip Dale, who narrowly missed the 21ft mark in the long jump, and cleared 6-0.5ft in the High Jump, and Nate Neuerburg, who despite his 6-5.25ft personal best in the High Jump was unable to clear a mark.

“Our team is awfully young and our guys are still adjusting to competing at the collegiate level, but we fully expect to be competitive at our Indoor Conference Meet.”
