In conjunction with the Kansas Board of Regents Adult Education, ACCC offers free basic skills instruction and instructional materials to those who may or may not have a high school diploma, but wish to upgrade reading, writing, math, or computer skills. One of the unique programs offered is Skills for Success. This program includes Self-Empowerment, Basic Computer, Management Skills, and the Job Campaign. Each module meets for four hours and is a week-long. This program is not for college credit.

Allen County Community College is a partner in the Southeast Kansas Workforce Development One Stop. Job preparation and placement skills are stressed.

Requirements BEFORE testing:
  • Minimum 12 hours of instruction
  • Complete required paperwork prior to the testing date
  • Pass the Official GED Practice Test with a minimum standard score of 470 or higher
  • Pay the $68 non-refundable, non-transferable testing fee prior to testing date
  • Present valid picture ID (Kansas Driver's License or Kansas I.D.)
  • Re-testers must qualify to retest
  • There are a limited number of tests available for each session. When the maximum number of examinees have registered for a test, that session will be closed. Tests must be completed within 90 days from the date of the initial test.

    The Student Success Center is an Official General Education Development Testing Addendum Site. The ACCC Adult Education program offers free GED preparation classes during the day and in the evening on campus and in Outreach Sites.

    What are the GED Test?
    The GED tests consist of five tests in the areas of :
    Language Arts Writing Part I and Part II
    Social Studies
    Science
    Language Arts Reading
    Mathematics Part I and Part II
    The questions in each of these tests require an individual to use general knowledge and problem solving skills. The content of the GED tests corresponds to what graduating high school seniors in the United States are expected to know.

    An individual who successfully completes the GED Tests in Kansas receives a Kansas State High School Diploma from the Kansas Board of Regents. GED Tests are accepted as a valid means for awarding high school diplomas by all 50 states. The Kansas State High School Diploma is widely accepted as a suitable measure by employers and training programs. In addition, ninety-five percent of colleges and universities, including Allen County Community College accept the Kansas State High School Diploma. Allen County Community College offers a scholarship for those who complete the GED Test in scholarship range.
    Who is eligible to take the GED Tests?
    Individuals are eligible to take the tests if they are not enrolled in and have not graduated from an accredited high school. They must have a current Kansas picture ID. They must be a Kansas resident. They must be 18 years of age. If they are 16 or 17 years of age, they must present a signed Compulsory School Attendance Disclaimer form before registering to test.
    How should I prepare for the GED Tests?
    Monthly enrollment sessions are provided at Allen County Community College and its Outreach Centers.     What is the Cost?
    Instruction is free. There is a $10 application fee. The cost of the battery of tests is $68, which is non-refundable and non-transferable.
