This information is provided to comply with the 2024 Kansas House Bill 2105, which was passed into law on April 25, 2024, and became effective July 1, 2024.
Allen Community College does not condition admission or educational aid for an applicant, nor hiring, reappointing, or promoting a faculty member, on the applicant’s or faculty member’s pledging allegiance to or making a statement of personal support for or opposition to any political ideology or movement. This includes pledges or statements related to fairness, respect, opportunity, or similar concepts. The College will not request or require such pledges or statements from any applicant or faculty member.
If Allen Community College receives a pledge or statement describing a commitment to any particular political ideology or movement, including those related to fairness, respect, or opportunity, the College will not grant or deny admission, educational aid, employment, reappointment, or promotion based on the viewpoints expressed in that pledge or statement.
This law does not:
- Prohibit Allen Community College from requiring students, faculty, or employees to comply with federal or state law, including anti-discrimination laws, or from taking action against violations of such laws.
- Limit or restrict the academic freedom of faculty or prevent faculty members from teaching, researching, or publishing on topics such as fairness, respect, opportunity, or related subjects.
- Prohibit Allen Community College from considering, in good faith, a faculty member’s scholarship, teaching, or subject-matter expertise in their academic field.
Allen Community College will make publicly available on this webpage all training materials used for students, faculty, and staff on matters of nondiscrimination, fairness, respect, opportunity, race, ethnicity, sex, or bias, along with all College policies and guidance on these topics.
