Building Maintenance Repairer Apprenticeship
Building Maintenance Repairer Apprenticeship:

Perform work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of a building in repair. Duties may involve pipe fitting; HVAC maintenance; insulating; welding; machining; carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment; and repairing buildings, floors, or stairs.

What You’ll Learn (Program Outcomes)
Apprentices in this program will be able to:
- Create safe, engaging environments and routines that support whole‑child development and healthy relationships with families.
- Observe, document, and assess children’s growth to inform learning experiences and identify when to engage families and specialists.
- Plan and lead developmentally appropriate activities across domains (language, motor, social‑emotional, cognitive, creative arts, health and safety).
- Support children’s basic needs (nutrition, hygiene, rest) and teach health and personal habits.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and collaborate with colleagues; complete records and documentation.
- Adapt care and curriculum for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, including children with exceptional needs or challenging behaviors.

On‑the‑Job Learning (Sample Competencies)
During On-the-Job Learning, apprentices demonstrate proficiency in areas such as:
- Safety & Environment: Maintain safe play environments; arrange classrooms for safety and engagement.
- Observation & Guidance: Observe and evaluate development and behavior; use positive, age‑appropriate guidance and consistency.
- Curriculum & Activities: Plan and lead balanced, developmentally appropriate activities (music, art, storytelling, field trips).
- Family Partnerships: Build respectful relationships; communicate daily activities and concerns; support social‑emotional development.
- Health & Care: Meet basic care needs; follow nutrition guidelines; teach hygiene; sanitize equipment; document incidents and medications.
- Records & Administration: Keep daily records; perform administrative tasks (attendance, paperwork, calls); supervise/schedule as appropriate.
- Professional Growth: Complete a professional development plan; design and deliver a 2‑hour staff training.
