With recent tension in politics, international conflict, and inflation, it is a miracle that people have managed to stay focused on the most important thing in life, sports, but it has not been easy.
Viewers of professional sports leagues like the EPL, NBA, NFL, or MLB have had their news feeds interrupted more and more by news of the outside world due to recent conflicts. Chris Denton, avid sports fan, said that it’s almost impossible to watch his favorite NBA team without being interrupted.
“I was just trying to watch the nuggets (Denver Nuggets) but it kept getting rudely interrupted by news that other people exist!” Denton Said.
As the ongoing war in Russia and Ukraine has continued to dominate the media outlets, criticisms of Putin grow louder among sports fans as their media sees an influx of stories on the millions of casualties on both fronts. This has deeply hurt many Americans, as Alex Collinger, a top tier drafter for his fantasy soccer league, states.
“It is so senseless of Russia to invade Ukraine right before the Champions league Final In St. Petersburg… I mean, does this guy even think about others?” Alex Collinger said.
Collinger is not the only one disturbed by the consequences that war has had on his sports viewing; many fans across the United States are upset with the constant protesting during game times.
“I am tired of these protesters stealing screen time from my favorite players while hiding behind a poster. Don’t be scared! If you want to protest, show your face. Be bold!” an anonymous source said.
At the end of the day, these sports fans just want to enjoy their very important sports games without having to be burdened with mood killing vibes, such as tragedy, empathy, and remembering they belong to a functioning society. They shouldn’t have to worry about other people, other countries, other politics because that’s too much work and not enough fun.
