Terri began teaching at Allen in 2000. Her courses include Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Mass Communication, Reporting, Theatre Appreciation, Improvisation and Introduction to Film. Terri served as the Communication and Fine Arts Division chair from 2008 – 2016 and Assistant Theatre Director. Terri is a member of the National Communication Association, Central States Communication Association and recipient of the NISOD Outstanding Faculty Award. Prior to coming to Allen, Terri worked as Marketing Associate for Home Box Office in New York and the Tony Award-winning La Jolla Playhouse in California. In addition, she worked as a professional actress in theatres across the country including New York City, San Diego and St. Louis.

Tony has been Director of Theatre at Allen since 1999. He teaches Acting I & II, Theater Appreciation, Stagecraft, Voice and Diction, Public Speaking and Theater Practicum. Tony is production coordinator for all shows and directs three plays a year including the Summer Allen Youth Theatre series for young performers ages 13-21.  Tony has directed over 40 plays at Allen including The Night of the Iguana, Much Ado About Nothing, Our Town, The Cherry Orchard, Bus Stop, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, The Crucible, The Importance of Being Earnest, You Can’t Take it With You, Footloose, As You Like It, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, and The Tempest. Tony has received the NISOD award for outstanding Allen faculty member and a Meritorious Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center-American College Theatre Festival for theatre program development. Prior to coming to Allen, he taught or directed at Baker University, Mid-America Nazarene University, St. Mary College and Maple Woods Community College. Tony trained professionally at Stella Adler Studios in New York and worked in theatre and television in New York and California.  He is a member of Actor’s Equity, SAG-AFTRA, and the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.

Bruce Symes is the advisor to The Allen Flame and Newspaper Practicum instructor. He also is Writing Center coordinator and instructor of developmental English at Allen Community College. He joined the Allen staff in 2008 after working for 24 years in journalism, 23 of which were at the Iola Register. He has been the advisor of the online Flame since its inception in fall 2011.

Christa recently joined Allen as a full-time instructor following three years of adjunct instruction since 2013.  She teaches Public Speaking at the Burlingame campus and Shawnee Heights High School. Prior to teaching, she worked in Human Resources for Frito-Lay. Christa obtained her master’s degree in communication studies at Kansas State University and her undergraduate degrees in communication and biology at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas.
