Associate in Science with an emphasis in Information Technology

Allen’s Information Technology degree prepares students for careers in network and computer support.  Allen is a Cisco Networking Academy and our students are prepared to work in positions for computer support and management, software application support, and network support and administration.

Many students get started working on their degree by earning an 18 credit hour Computer & Network Support Technician certificate. The courses in this certificate are also included in the Associate in Science degree.  Information Technology courses included in the degree and certificate include:

  • CIS 135 Computer Repair – Core Hardware
  • CIS 275 Computer Repair – Operating Systems
  • CIS 125 Network Basic
  • CIS 250 Routing and Switching Essentials

Students completing this degree and/or certificate are prepared to take two national certification exams:

  • CompTIA A+ certification exam
  • Cisco Systems, Inc. CCENT certification exam

The Associate in Science with an emphasis in Information Technology degree track is a sequence of recommended courses designed to meet most degree requirements for the first two years of study at most Kansas Board of Regents universities. Students pursuing an associate degree in Information Technology often transfer from Allen's program to Fort Hays State University.

Students may also pursue an Associate in Applied Science in Information Networking Technology at Allen.  This degree is designed for the students who are interested in taking additional technology-based course work.
