Accreditation Statement

Allen County Community College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), which was founded in 1895 as one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. The Higher Learning Commission is a regional accreditation agency that accredits degree-granting institutions of higher education that are based in the 19-state North Central region of the United States. The accreditation process is based on a system of peer review. Institutions that HLC accredits are evaluated against HLC’s Criteria for Accreditation, a set of standards that institutions must meet to receive and/or maintain accredited status. HLC’s Criteria for Accreditation address: Adherence to the College’s Mission; Integrity; Teaching and Learning (support and improvement); and Institutional Effectiveness.

Open Pathway

Allen County Community College participates in the Open Pathway for accreditation within the HLC. Participating in the Open Pathway is a privilege afforded only to those institutions with a long-standing positive review from HLC.  The Open Pathway allows institutions to complete a college-wide Quality Initiative designed to suit the individual college’s needs. The Open Pathway also includes submitting an Assurance Review, which consists of Allen’s responses to HLC’s Criteria for Accreditation complete with an evidence File, and a comprehensive evaluation visit by peer reviewers from other HLC institutions.
