Technical Support FAQ
Why can't I find my class at www.blackboard.com?
The URL to access your courses is http://allencc.blackboard.com.
Required browser settings for logging into Blackboard include the following:
Classes do not show up until the first day of class at the beginning of the semester.
This generally happens when the internet connection fails, when you minimize/maximize the window, when you use the scroll wheel on the mouse, when you use the back arrow or when you double click too often. We recommend that you copy and paste the entire test/quiz into a word document and email it to your instructor. Your instructor may be able to grade it manually. Only your instructor can reset a test/quiz if needed.
Some discussion boards expect you to reply to threads created by the instructor.
You probably double-clicked on the quiz which opened and submitted it instantly. The instructor will need to reset the quiz.
You need to download the latest version of Java. Go to java.com which will determine what version you need and help you through the process.
What can I do if the font on my screen is too tiny to see?
Modern web browsers will "cache" (or keep a local copy of) web pages in order to make browsing faster. It is likely that you are looking at an old copy of the page that's actually on your computer rather than in Blackboard. You can force your browser to update the page from the web by clicking the "Reload" or "Refresh" button at the top of the screen.
When a test is started but not completed, a padlock appears in the gradebook. If you instructor set the assessment for multiple attempts, then you will be able to take it again. However, if the instructor set it for a single attempt, you will need to contact your instructor for a reset. An exclamation point means that the instructor needs to grade the assessment before your score will appear. An exclamation point also appears in the gradebook if you exceeded the time limit allowed for an exam. Exams do not shut down when the time limit is reached, but the assessment tracks how long you worked after the deadline.
At the bottom of the assignment page are three buttons. The "Cancel" button will cancel your work and the "Submit" button will send your assignment to your instructor for grading. This problem is usually caused by the "Save" button, which will save your assignment but not send it to your instructor. If you click "Save" then your instructor will see that you are working on your assignment (it will be "locked" on your instructor's page), but your instructor will not be able to view your saved files until you submit your assignment. You should go back to the assignments page and click the "Submit" button when you have completed your work in order to actually send it to your instructor.
I'm trying to add a comment to our class discussion board, but it isn't working. However, if I go to the college's computer lab or use a friend's computer I seem to be able to post without any problems. Any ideas on what's causing this?
You should check your computer for viruses, spyware, and add on tool bars. All of these may cause problems when posting to your discussion board. You should first ensure you have good anti-virus software and that your virus definitions are updated. Then scan your whole disk to look for viruses.
Lastly, check to see if you have adding any tool bars on your browser and consider removing them.
