Placement
What is Placement?
All associate degrees require at least one math course and one writing course. Some certificate programs also require math or writing.
Your placement scores are used to place you in the level of math, writing or reading that is right for your skill level. If your placement scores do not place you into the course that is required for your degree or certificate, you will need to begin at the level into which you tested and work your way through each course to the required one. These courses are called developmental courses.
You may take the ACT, the ACCUPLACER or the SAT to determine your placement scores. (ACT Compass scores may be submitted as Allen no longer administers this test.) Once your scores have been determined, you can view the placement chart for math, writing, and reading courses. Your Advisor can help you understand which classes you will be enrolled into based on how you scored.
Recent high school graduates or students still in high school may be eligible for exceptions to the sub-score requirements (English and math only). To check your eligibility, consult the Placement Chart.
